dc.description.abstract | Reinforcement corrosion is the most prevalent deterioration mechanism in Brazil. These reinforcements are protected against corrosion due to the formation of a passivating film on the surface. When this film is destroyed, the metal is exposed to the corrosive medium, which makes it susceptible to the corrosion process. This process can be started by reducing the pH, by the presence of chloride ions or by leaching the concrete. Thus, the main objective of this work was to perform a concise review on the corrosion of reinforced concrete structures, based on two of the main causes of the corrosion process: the presence of chloride ions and carbonation, as well as the mechanisms involved. in these processes, and the methods of prevention and recovery. In this work it was observed that the prevention of reinforcement corrosion from surface treatments, corrosion inhibitors, epoxy paint and galvanization is necessary to avoid the compromise of reinforced concrete and that in case of recovery, the need for replacement or not part of the reinforcement, according to the degree of corrosion presented by it. | |
