dc.description.abstract | The use of power transmission lines containing overhead and underground sections can be a good solution for the adaptation of transmission and distribution systems especially in urban environments. However, this topology causes problems regarding the fault location algorithm of protection devices, once the discontinuity of the impedance caused by the characteristics of each line segment can lead to errors in the calculation to locate the fault point, leading to additional costs and maintenance time. This final paper aimed to evaluate the fault location algorithm performance that is used in a commercial protection relay, presenting the measurement error when current and voltage signals generated by a model with hybrid power transmission lines developed on ATPDraw software were applied. The results of the tests showed a greater rate error than the rates guaranteed by the manufacturer, leading to the conclusion that the fault location algorithm is inappropriate and it needs improvement to work with the discontinuity of impedance of the proposed system. | |
