dc.description.abstract | Developed in 1991 by the The Welding Institute (TWI), the process called Friction Stir Welding is presented as an interesting alternative, compared to common fusion welding processes, mainly in aluminum alloys. Because it occurs entirely in the solid state, common problems related to melting of the material like hot cracking and porosity are avoided. Because the efforts involved in FSW are similar to those of conventional milling machines, this type of equipment becomes a viable option for process adaptation. Thus, this study had as main objective the adaptation of a conventional milling machine for Fricton Stir Welding process in aluminum 1200 H14 plates, also establishing the parameters for better results of joint. Using the OFAT (One Factor At Time) method, the experiments were made in three sections in order to determinate the tool rotation and the welding speed, the pin height and the tool penetration depth for the best results. The study proved the possibility in using a milling machine for FSW process and made possible the comprehension of the effects of changing the parameters in the weld. | |
