dc.description.abstractThis research analyzes the representations of genetics through illustrations in science textbooks. The objective was to analyze how illustrations related to Genetics are represented in Science textbooks, from the Araribá Collection - PNLD/2020, for the final years of elementary school. The choice of this collection, among the twelve available to teachers to choose from, is justified by the fact that it is the only collection received by all schools that make up the Regional Education Center of Ponta Grossa/PR. The research is of a documental nature, with qualitative analysis of the illustrations, based on the content analysis outlined by Moraes (1999). The illustrations were identified and categorized based on the criteria image (I), activity (A), teacher's manual (MP) and scientific dissemination (DC), and later analyzed as to the category of illustration, the use of captions and the interface with the text. The results showed that the analyzed textbooks contain illustrations related to Genetics in all volumes, with more presence in the 9th grade issue. It was possible to see a large amount of illustrations and their relevance to the approach of Genetics in the analyzed collection, that the authors and publisher followed the requirements of the PNLD and the guidelines of the BNCC.
