This work has as its theme the analysis of the philosophical aspects found at the seventh chapter of The Posthumous Memoirs of Bras Cubas by Machado de Assis. The purpose of such analysis is to uncover existing assumptions in the delirium of Bras Cubas, since its transformation in the Summa Theologica until his encounter with Pandora, mythological character. The chapter is permeated by fantasy, with ambivalent and paradoxical characters like the hippo and the Pandora. These characters, such as some textual passages that establish polyphony, are seen according to their relevance, in a way trying to enlighten the implicit pre-established by the deceased-writer. The study aims to understand the inter and intratextual philosophical aspects presented in the narrative of this chapter, not only making it the most charming and enigmatic of the novel, as well as highlight the importance of the work in historical and social context of the time.
