This work presents the study, analysis and application of adaptive controllers applied in the control to a photovoltaic (PV) distributed generation (DG) system of simple stage of operating integrated to a quality conditioner of single-phase unified power quality conditioner (UPQC). The integration of the DG with the UPQC is justified because, at the same time that the energy produced by the PV system is injected into the network. the active energy conditioning is carried out by the UPQC, that is, the integrated system improves power quality indicators since it drains from the grid sinusoidal current in phase with the voltage grid, as well as supplying local loads with sinusoidal and regulated voltage. The adaptive controller is used in DC bus voltage control and UPQC current controller considering that it operates with different power compensation strategies, that is, with a conventional (C) dual (D) compensation strategy. The adaptive controller based on the Model Reference Adaptive Control acts in order to compare the model dynamics with the process dynamics, the difference between these components is the error that must be minimized according to the setting mechanism in order to obtain the best gains so that the process output of the system is closer to the model output. Simulation results are presented for evaluating comparing purposes of the static and dynamic performances of the PV-C-UPQC and PV-D-UPQC systems operating with the adaptive and the classical proportional-integral controller, when the systems under study are subjected to irradiation variations, as well as well as local loads.
