dc.description.abstractDue to the abstract nature of processes, without the use of a standardized modeling methodology, understanding them is a hard task. The success of process modeling depends on the selection of appropriate modeling methods available, techniques or processing flow analyses. There are many techniques or analyses used in this field; however, the literature suggests that there is no single technique for modeling processes. The commonest practice is to utilize a set of tools which allow the use of different techniques, based on data available for the development of the model and related to the modeling purpose. In this sense, the objective of this research paper is to formulate a process modeling methodology which supports the implantation of workflow in service companies. The study starts with a review of the literature in which concepts related to the management of business processes, modeling and optimization of processes and systems of automation of processes via workflow. Next, according to the observations of specific characteristics of the businesses and the adequacy of the methodologies used by everal authors, a methodological route for process modeling is presented. Finally, this paper shows an example of validation in which the methodology is applied in a nuclear energy sector company, in the modeling processes in order to implement a workflow system.
