In recent years there have been a series of geopolitical changes on the planet, causing the need for food production to increase. This increasing demand for meat makes it necessary to implement new practices in the rearing systems in order to increase production efficiency and harness all available resources as well as products generated throughout the production chain, making thus the most profitable and sustainable activity. Thus, the use of animals from dairy breeds for meat production is very promising for current livestock. The objective of this study was to evaluate the economic and financial viability of the feedlot finishing of Jersey calves fed high-grain diets slaughtered with different weights (360, 390 and 420 kg). Upon reaching weight, the animals were slaughtered and marketed in a commercial refrigerator. For cost estimation this research used primary and secondary sources. The methodology used was that described by Matsunaga (1976), which obtained variable cost (CV) and effective operating cost (COE), thus calculating gross (MB) and operating margins (MOE), equilibrium production as well as the benefit index.: cost (IB: C) of the activity. It was concluded that in the three observed weights, no economic viability was obtained in the evaluated indicators, showing unsatisfactory results in the three weights, with COE higher than the price received with IB: C of 0.88: 0.97 and 0.92 for the weights. 360, 390 and 420 respectively, thus concluding that the breeding of Jersey steers in feedlot system was not feasible in the case studied.
