The Humankind is experiencing an age of intense changes, and for the first time the man is seeing itself as a global unit instead of a local unit. The use of renewable and non-centralized energy resources appears as a feasible solution to minimize the impacts from the modern man lifestyle on the environment. The photovoltaic energy is a renewable and non-centralized energy source, and presents itself as a solution for this problem. Brazil has a huge power generating potential coming from this source, but not explored. Otherwise Germany, who pursuit an average solar irradiation lower than Brazil, is the worldwide leader on electricity generation from this source. This work aims to realize a comparative study between a city in Germany and the Brazilian city of Curitiba, to establish the power generation potential from the Parana’s state capital. This work was theoretically based on books, papers, articles, between other sources, to ratify this research production. With the study, it was possible to confirm that, for a photovoltaic installation with identical technical specifications and constructive characteristics in Munich and in Curitiba, the environmental factors counts for the Curitiba’s side, showing this a generation potential higher than the one verified in Munich. In a global analysis, it was possible to demonstrate that, for the same installed power capacity in Curitiba and in Munich; the first one can be more attractive and generate more electricity. This way, it is possible also to add the photovoltaic source on the Curitiba’s energy portfolio. Taking this in account, this work is important to when a decision is needed regarding investments on the photovoltaic sector in Curitiba.
