| dc.description | Del conjunto modernista socio-literario destaca la figura del uruguayo Roberto de las Carreras como representación fi el del dandismo latinoamericano fi nisecular. Marcado por su origen bastardo y constantemente acusado de perezoso y neurasténico, fue considerado un sujeto escandaloso y nocivo para la reputación de hombres y mujeres. La estructura de su ética particular, disonante con respecto a la moral establecida, su afán por la pose o el artifi cio, y su desdoblamiento como personaje literario más que como persona, le condenó, superada la etapa de estupor inicial, al señalamiento y fi nalmente al aislamiento social. | |
| dc.description | The Uruguayan born Roberto de las Carreras stands out from socioliterary Modernist personalities as the faithful representation of end of century Latin American dandiism. He was stigmatized for his illegitimate birth and forever accused of being lazy and neurasthenic. In addition, he was considered a dangerous person and harmful to the reputation of men and women alike. Once the initial dazzlement was over, he began to be targetted and was fi nally condemned to social banishment by his own brand of ethics, which was deviant in comparison with established moral norms, and by his penchant for affectation and artifi ce, and, again, by the double personality he displayed, more as a literary character than as a person. | |
