dc.descriptionEl sistema segregacionista de Estados Unidos entre finales del siglo XIX y mediados de los sesenta, siglo XX, afecto cada aspecto de la convivencia entre blancos y negros. Una de sus más controversiales prohibiciones fue la ley que impedía matrimonios interraciales. En 1932, en la Corte de Apelaciones del estado de Kentucky se realizo el caso la pareja Theophanis con la intención del anular dicho matrimonio aplicando la ley. El objeto de este artículo es analizar a fondo el divorcio de los Theophanis para revelar las inconsistencias del sistema jurídico y las incidencias del sistema segregacionista en la familia.
dc.descriptionBetween the end of the nineteenth century and the 1960s the segregation system (Jim Crow) of the United States touched every aspect of the lives of Blacks and Whites. One of the most controversial issues was the law that prohibited interracial marriages. In 1932, in the Kentucky Court of Appeals, the Theophanis married couple intended to use this law to dissolve their marriage. The object of this article is to analyze in depth the Theophanis divorce to reveal the inconsistencies of the judicial system and segregation system in the American family in the period studied.
