| dc.description | This article seeks to reveal the relationship that exists between epistemology and research, in order to establish the general conditions of the scientific approach that give legitimacy and validity to knowledge produced by the social sciences. The exposition is supported by bibliographical review and analysis of different sources. The way that efforts to construct theories, especially medium-level theories, have developed is presented summarily in the paper, recurring to specific examples (Merton 1980; Ward 1995; Vásquez 2009) and empirical research endeavors, whose results constitute a notable theoretical advance, even though the challenge of finding a more inclusive theory still remains. These issues make it possible to conclude that mastery of the relationship between epistemology and methodology by researchers in academic communities gives strength to the results of scientific research and advances explanations consistent with reality. | en-US |
| dc.description | El presente artículo busca poner de manifiesto la relación existente entre epistemología e investigación a fin de establecer la existencia de condiciones generales de cientificidad que dan legitimidad y validez al conocimiento que se elabora en las ciencias sociales. La exposición se apoya en la revisión y análisis bibliográfico de distintas fuentes. Se expone sintéticamente, apelando a ejemplos puntuales (Merton, 1980; Ward, 1995; y Vásquez, 2009), la manera en que se han desarrollado los esfuerzos por construir teorías, en particular de alcance medio, y de esfuerzos de investigación empírica, cuyo producto constituye un avance teó- rico promisorio, aunque el reto de la teorización inclusiva continua vigente. Esos asuntos permiten concluir que el dominio, por parte de los investigadores y en las comunidades académicas, de la relación epistemología y metodología adjudica fortaleza a los resultados de la investigación científica que se obtengan y permite avanzar hacia explicaciones consistentes de la realidad. | es-ES |
