dc.description | The initial point of the present investigation was the constant appearance and propagation of emerging diseases that the zone of the Argentine Coast suffered at that moment. Among these diseases was the corroboration of the existence of Leishmaniosis in the municipality of San José. For this reason, the following objectives were established: to corroborate the existence of Leishmaniasis in dogs of the municipality of San José and its statistical correlate, as a fundamental tool for future health plans in the control of this important zoonosis; to compare diagnostic alternatives in relation to the use of different dyes for microscopic observation and to promote Extension’s projects for the students of the race. After the investigation and after the subsequent analysis of the data, the following conclusions were reached. It was possible to corroborate the existence of the disease in the Municipality. The data came from a sample of 124 canines, obtained from the techniques described above, lymph node puncture and blood extraction. The samples were obtained in the different districts of the municipality. From the research carried out in 2016 in a sample of one hundred twenty-four canines regardless of sex, we have reached the following conclusions after the realization of the two diagnostic methods for the detection of canine Leishmaniasis: As for the diagnoses. Definitive, according to sex, it has been detected that more than 40 % of the female canines have given positive result to the disease; against 58 % in male canines with the same diagnosis. As for the results presented, according to the technique used, there are more than 80 % of canines with negative diagnosis using the lymph node puncture technique, while a small percentage gave a positive result with the same technique. On the other hand, taking the serology technique as reference, a slight difference between positive and negative results can be observed, varying their values between 48 % and 51 %, respectively. If we consider the technique and the sex, it is possible to detect that more diagnostic tests were done on male canines; with a difference of approximately 15 % for the lymph node puncture technique. The present investigation served as the starting point to develop objectives of a new research, in which the use of repellents for the prevention of the disease will be evaluated. | en-US |
