dc.descriptionResumen Esta investigación tuvo como objetivo explorar los supuestos epistemológicos que poseen los docentes del Departamento de Idiomas Modernos de La Universidad del Zulia (DIM-LUZ) sobre el desarrollo de la competencia comunicativa intercultural en la enseñanza de lenguas extranjeras (LE). Teóricamente se fundamenta en la evolución del término competencia comunicativa a partir de la visión chomskiana hasta llegar a las acepciones actuales recibidas por esta competencia, desde una perspectiva intercultural. Bajo un enfoque metodológico cuantitativo se diseña un cuestionario y se aplica a una muestra de 10 docentes, cuyos resultados conducen a concluir la necesidad de enseñar LE estableciendo un equilibrio entre el enfoque comunicativo y el intercultural para lograr una formación acorde con la globalización cultural actual.Abstract The objective of this research was to explore the epistemological assumptions that teachers from the Modern Languages Department at the University of Zulia have regarding the development of intercultural communicative competence in foreign language teaching (FLT). It was theoretically based on the evolution of the concept of communicative competence from the chomskyan viewpoint up to the current acceptance of the term in the framework of an intercultural perspective. Under a quantitative methodological approach, a questionnaire was designed and applied to a sample of 10 teachers. The main conclusion is that FLT processes should encompass a balance between the communicative and the intercultural approaches so as to attain the kind of formation that complies with today’s cultural globalization.es-ES
