dc.descriptionResumenReflexionar sobre cuáles son las características particulares de la profesión del economista que trazan el perfil de su servicio específico a la sociedad, es una tarea importante. Este trabajo tiene como propósito analizar el perfil académicoprofesional del economista de la Universidad del Zulia durante el período 1958- 2014. La metodología utilizada fue la interpretación de los planes de estudio, a partir de los subperíodos: 1958-1973, 1974-1984, 1985-1995, 1995-2002 y 2002-2014. La definición del economista ha girado en torno a la de médico social, científico social, profesional y miembro de la sociedad, comprometido con su realidad social. Se concluye que la formación del economista ha estado enmarcada hacia la búsqueda del desarrollo económico, que conjugue su desempeño en los roles fundamentales de planificador, investigador, analista, asesor y emprendedor.Abstract To reflect on the particular characteristics of the economist’s profession that trace the profile of his specific service to society is an important task. This work aims to analyze the academic-professional profile of the economist at the University of Zulia during the period 1958-2014. The methodology used was the interpretation of the curriculum, from the sub-periods: 1958-1973, 1974-1984, 1985-1995, 1995- 2002 and 2002-2014. The definition of the economist has revolved around notions such as social health, social scientific, professional and member of society committed to its social reality. It is concluded that the formation of the economist has been focused towards the pursuit of economic development, combined with planning, researching, analysing, consulting and entrepreneuring. es-ES
