dc.descriptionThis article traces the history of the province Puerto Plata from its beginnings, with the establishment of the first city of the New World in La Isabella, through subsequent devastations it endured, through its rebirth and importance during the 19th century, through challenges during the 20th century and finally to the new opportunities it is currently enjoying. The study provides information about the first settlers of the communities, their means of livelihood, culture, significant events, important personalities and it also provides information about the problems, needs and opportunities faced by residents today. Based on bibliographic information, oral history and unpublished research, the study seeks to illuminate the trajectory followed by the people who settled the north coast of this Spanish island. dc.descriptionEste trabajo trata de presentar la historia de la provincia Puerto Plata desde sus inicios, con el establecimiento de la primera ciudad del Nuevo Mundo en la Isabela, las devastaciones, su renacer e importancia durante el siglo XIX, problemas enfrentados durante el siglo XX y la nueva oportunidad que disfruta en el presente siglo XXI. Da a conocer informaciones sobre los primeros pobladores de las comunidades, sus medios de vida, cultura, acontecimientos, personalidades más impor- tantes, sus retos, necesidades y las oportunidades que enfrentan en la actualidad, basándose en informacio- nes bibliográficas, testimonios orales e investigaciones inéditas. También trata de dar a conocer la trayectoria seguida por este grupo humano que se asentó en la Costa Norte de la isla Española. Además, intenta con- tribuir a mantener la memoria histórica.es-ES
