Valoración de Actitudes Humanistas en estudiantes de sexto año de Medicina, Montevideo 2019

Abstract

Se realizó un estudio descriptivo transversal, en la ciudad de Montevideo en el año 2019, tomando como población objetivo a los estudiantes que cursan 6to año de la carrera Doctor en Medicina en la Facultad de Medicina de la UdelaR. Se tomó una muestra de 120 estudiantes elegidos al azar de una población de 586. El objetivo general del mismo fue; “Valorar las actitudes humanistas en el estudiante de sexto año, identificar factores que pudieran influir en éstas (vinculados a la desmotivación y el relacionamiento), su satisfacción con el primer nivel de atención y percepción de la necesidad de formación en Humanidades Médicas”. Para esto se realizó un cuestionario anónimo autoadministrado que constó de 29 preguntas cerradas, previo consentimiento informado. Como resultados más relevantes pudo observarse que 97,5% de los estudiantes mostró tener actitudes medianamente humanistas según una escala arbitraria creada por los investigadores. También se constató que la percepción de trato humano que tienen respecto a sus compañeros fue también medianamente buena en su mayoría (74,1%). Se identificó que 100% de los encuestados ha sufrido algún trastorno en la esfera psicológica (ansiedad, estrés, depresión, ataque de pánico y/o ideas suicidas), y 87% lo vincula a la Facultad. Un 88% presenció trato inapropiado y un 84% fue de docentes a estudiantes, 31% se sintió humillado en público y 5% fue víctima de bullying. 31% refiere que no le fue útil el trabajo en comunidad y 43% no lo cursaría de ser electivo. Por último, se pudo constatar que 97% refiere necesidad de contar con formación en Humanidades Médicas y 78% opina que la misma debería ser una materia curricular obligatoria. En conclusión, el estudio denota la carencia en formación en Humanidades Médicas en la carrera Doctor en Medicina, la cual tiene como expectativa a su egreso profesionales “profundamente humanistas”.

A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out, in the city of Montevideo in 2019, taking as a target population the students who are in the 6th year of the Doctor of Medicine degree at the UdelaR School of Medicine. A sample of 120 students chosen at random from a population of 586 was obtained. The general objective of the study was; “To assess the humanist attitudes in the sixth year students, to identify factors affecting those attitudes (linked to demotivation and relationship), their satisfaction with the first level of attention and their perception of the need for training in Medical Humanities”. For this purpose, an anonymous self-administered questionnaire was developed consisting of 29 closed questions, to be filled after signed informed consent. The more relevant results, observed were97.5% of the students had moderately humanistic attitudes according to an arbitrary scale created by the researchers. The perceived human relationship they establish with their peers was also moderately good for the most part (74.1%). 100% of respondents manifested some degree of unrest in the psychological sphere (anxiety, stress, depression, panic attack and / or suicidal ideas), and 87% linked it to the Faculty. 88% had witnessed inappropriate behavior, 84% of that total from teachers to students, 31% having been humiliated in public and 5% being bullied. 31% report that community work had not been useful for them and 43% would not take it if it were elective. Finally, 97% point to the need for training in Medical Humanities and 78% think that it should be a compulsory curricular subject. In conclusion, this investigation unveils the lack of training in Medical Humanities in the Doctor of Medicine career, although the objective, as defined by the Faculty aims at training students to graduate as "profoundly humanistic" professionals.
