dc.description.abstract | Qualitative, descriptive research carried out with the objective of describing the conceptions
and practices of health professionals of the first level of care, in the exercise of their
professional work, considering as theoretical support the social constructionism. Twelve
health professionals from a primary health care facility in Trujillo province were interviewed
on a semi-structured basis and were selected on the basis of intentional, non-random
sampling. After reading and transcripting the interviews, the following categories were
constructed for the conception and practice of mental health: (I) Mental health as part of
health. Practice: Listening. (II) Mental health as absence of disease. Practice: Screening. (III)
Mental health as balance, intra-psychic well-being. Practice: Referral. As a final
consideration, we can say that mental health conceptions guide the mental health practice of
health professionals and in these a predominance of the biomedical approach is shown. | |
