dc.description.abstract | The purpose of the research was to determine the influence of time on the chemical stability
of the root extract of Valeriana pilosa Ruiz & Pav. The sample was identified with code
59831 in the Herbarium Truxillense. The extract was obtained by dynamic maceration from
the roots and 70% v/v water/ethanol mixture. The extract was analysed by liquid
chromatography and detected major peaks at 254 nm. The extract was tested for stability at
room temperature and analysed for 30 days. Then, the chemical molecules of importance
were tentatively identified by UHPLC-MS/MS. Thirteen peaks were obtained and labelled
with the letters ''a'' to ''m''. The stability test determined that the peaks ''a'' to ''i'' were stable
under storage conditions. Peaks ''j'', ''k'', ''l'' and ''m'' were decreasing until the end of the test.
It was tentatively identified that the signal with the highest area and stability would
correspond to an O-methylated flavone called acacetin, and the unstable molecules would
be related to iridoid-derived compounds. It is concluded that the chromatographic profile of
the 70% hydroethanolic extract of Valeriana pilosa Ruiz & Pav. roots showed that 13
compounds are chemically stable at a maximum storage time of 7 days.
