N: Cervical spondylotic myelopathy is the main cause of cervical spinal cord dysfunction, being a progressive degenerative disease. It is the most common cause of cervical myelopathy in adults. It is estimated that the incidence is 41 / 1,000,000 in the United States. The incidence of hospitalizations related to this pathology is estimated at 4.04 per 100,000 people. OBJECTIVE: To determine the diagnosis of cervical spondylotic myelopathy in older adults. METHODOLOGY: The search for scientific information was done in databases such as PUB-MED, SCIELO. Articles published from January 2014 to December 2018 were used. CONCLUSION: The gold standard of the diagnosis of cervical spondylotic myelopathy is the Magnetic Resonance with which the changes in the medullary structure and the degeneration of the intervertebral disc are checked. The techniques used are: anterior surgical approach, anterior cervical discectomy and fusion and anterior cervical corpectomy and fusion. These techniques have proved efficient in the treatment of this pathology with satisfactory results.
