Wastewater is one of the main problems in environmental sanitation at present, since coming from different sources of generation (domestic and industrial), they are constituted by a great variety of pollutants whose treatments when implementing the systems in charge of their debugging directly influence the cost of operation and maintenance. In Latin America the socioeconomic reality of the underdeveloped countries has led to the proliferation of oxidation or stabilization lagoons as an inexpensive method for the treatment of wastewater, Ecuador being one of the countries that uses the previous system described, the Canton Santa Rosa does not distance itself from this international and national reality, for which the present research work had the objective of making an environmental technical characterization of the current status of the wastewater treatment system and measuring its level of compliance with the current environmental regulations. For this, the methodology of: field inspection, direct in-situ observation, review of bibliographical sources was used and the construction of an impaction matrix and evaluation of the oxidation lagoons was carried out, to subsequently analyze the information obtained from the it was concluded that the treatment system of wastewater based on oxidation lagoons works properly and that all the processes of environmental regularization required in the Unified System of Environmental Information Environmental License and Environmental Audits have been complied with.
