N: The neurohypophysis is responsible for synthesizing two hormones: oxytocin and vasopressin or antidiuretic hormone. Diabetes insipidus is defined as the disease caused by reduced secretion or action of antidiuretic hormone and resulting polyuria. There are two types of diabetes insipidus as the plant that is due to the deficit of antidiuretic hormone or vasopressin and the Nephrogenic with resistance by the renal tubules antidiuretic hormone activity. OBJECTIVE: Define clinical and laboratory parameters that establish the diagnosis of central diabetes insipidus and rule out other conditions that produce disorders in osmolarity. METHODS: The search of bibliography and scientific papers was conducted and that was used as search platforms: Pubmed, Google Scholar, Elsevier, New England Journal of Medicine among others; with minimum of 5 years old; we also proceeded to the translation of current literature that is not even in our language. CONCLUSIONS: Polyuria and polydipsia are the main clinical parameters for suspecting an osmolarity disorder but choice diagnostic test is water restriction test which confirms the diagnosis of diabetes insipidus-central, when you get to the diagnostic reliable treatment measures should be used as it is currently desmopressin in its different presentations, which must be administered to the patient according to their current status.
