dc.description.abstract | Background. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disease on childbearing age women, whose prevalence in Ecuador is 12.5% 5.1% in Guayaquil and Cuenca.
Objective. To determine the characteristics of polycystic ovary syndrome in patients treated at the Ambulatory Care Center of Cuenca CAA 302 (IESS). January 2014 - December 2015.
Methodology. Descriptive study comprised by the medical records of patients diagnosed with PCOS the CAA 320 during the period. Data were collected on a form. The results were analyzed in Microsoft Excel and SPSSv15.0. using descriptive statistics.
Results. 258 medical records with a diagnosis of PCOS is analyzed, the prevalence was 3,06% in 2014 and 2,14% in 2015. The 53,49% were women between 21 to 30 years and the average age was 26,89. The 87,21% reside in urban areas, 52,33% were unmarried, the bachelors 70.16% and 51,16% were employed. The prevalent clinical manifestations were 31.4% amenorrhea, 24,42% dysmenorrhea, 20,93% oligomenorrea. 40,31% of those who took laboratory tests had suggestive PCOS results. The 75,19%, which was performed ultrasound, had suggestive morphology.
Conclusions. The prevalence found is similar to other studies. It occurs mostly in the fertile age. The prevalent clinical manifestations are menstrual disorders. Ultrasound is a useful tool. It should apply the Rotterdam criteria as a comprehensive diagnostic method | |
