Prevalencia de trastornos psicopatológicos en los estudiantes del Colegio Técnico Nacional Cumbe del Cantón Cuenca, 2013.

Abstract

Background. About half (50%) of mental disorders begin before age 14 and 70% before 24.(2)In Latin America, there is a high rate of mental health problems in adolescents; about 20% of this population presents disorders such as: anxiety, depression, and alcoholism.(9) In the report: Health in the Americas-Ecuador (2012), between 2008 and 2010 in Ecuador, the number of cases of depression and anxiety increased. (3) It is also reported that in 2007, the prevalence of alcohol consumption was 76.09%. Objective. Determine the prevalence of psychopathological disorders in students of the Cumbe National Technical High School of Cuenca Canton in 2013. Material and Methods. Using this quantitative descriptive study, we determined the prevalence of psychopathological disorders (depression, anxiety and alcohol consumption) in 597 students of Cumbe National Technical High School, surveys were carried out using as form the questionnaire of symptoms SRQ (Self Reporting Questionnaire). Results. It was determined that in the studied population, the prevalence of depression is 11.06 %, 20.94 % for anxiety and for consumption of alcohol 18.59 %. Anxiety and depression are more common in females, while the male population has the highest consumption of alcohol. The age of presentation of alcohol consumption has the highest prevalence in students between 12 and 15 years, depression is more frequent in adolescents 15 years of age, while anxiety disorders are more frequent at the age of 16 years.
