dc.description.abstract | BACKGROUND: the first studies date back to the 50s and 70s, which were works of authors who pioneered the description of fetal mortality. A study conducted in Hawaii 50, had a great impact on a number of subsequent studies such as those conducted Kauai, New York, Martinique in the 70s, etc. (1). GENERAL OBJECTIVE: To determine frequency and characteristics of fetal death in the Cuenca´s Regional Hospital, Vicente Corral Moscoso, from 2010-2014. METHODS AND MATERIALS: A descriptive/retrospective study at the VCM´s Hospital, covering from 2010 to 2014. All registered cases of fetal death in that period were performed. Variables such as age, weeks of gestation, causes of stillbirth, reason for consultation and stillbirth were analyzed. For data processing SPSS 19.0 software was used.
RESULTS: The age bracket more represented was the one of 20 to 29 years. 75.5 % of the patients received less than 5 prenatal previous controls the demise, only the 24.5 % had 5 or more prenatal controls. There is not a causal factor of the predominant demise, the placental/ovular he showed up in one 27.1 of the cases, the maternal one in a 26.5 %, and the fetal one in a 23.1 % and there were 20.6 % of unknown causes. CONCLUSIONS: An increment of the fetal demise in the last three years is 48 cases in 2014, 39 cases in 2013 and 28 cases in 2012. The age bracket more represented was the one of 20 to 29 years. There is not a causal factor of the predominant demise. The main risk factor in our opinion is the not much quantity of prenatal previous controls | |
