In the present proposal, we pretend to emphasize the touristic potential of public squares that are characterized by the commerce of traditional products, which in spite of the passing of time continue maintaining their particular characteristics. One of the squares that we will mention in this project is San Francisco Square. There we can find Otavalo textiles, manufactured on alpaca, sheep, llama, and vicuña wool whose designs have managed to be innovative and creative, fitting the client preferences; inside of this square, we can find a shop of gold work that offers typical jewelry worn by the “Chola Cuencana.” A few meters from the square we can find the City Arts Center (CEMUART), in which we can find a great variety of colorful articles in different materials. Rotary Square maintains the traditional articles of tinsmithery, woodwork, basketry and pottery, just like other products that have carved out a new place on industrialization, with innovative and traditional products that could be ornamental or utilitarian for tourists or locals; however, each one of these articles cherishes a story to tell. Santa Ana Square, a relatively new spot, in which a great variety of artisanal jewelry becomes eye-catching due to the diverse materials that are used for the manufacture of necklaces, bracelets, and earrings among other souvenirs. This Project intends to enhance the attractions of each one of the squares, foreseeing the product to have acceptance by Cuenca society and so by tourists who visit the city.
