| dc.description.abstract | Objective: determine the prevalence and factors associated with biological accidents in Medical Resident in Health institutions Zone 6.
Material and methods: an analytical, epidemiological and transversal study was carried out with 210 Medical Residents who worked in Health Institutions in Zone 6, and who were enrolled for the period 2015-2016 in 4 universities in Cuenca. The data were collected through a questionnaire that contains sociodemographic data, characteristics of biological accidents and associated factors. In the statistical analysis, it was used frequencies and percentages; to contrast the hypothesis it was used the Chi square test. The Data were collected directly from assistential units, where the residents worked, and analyzed with the program PSPP.
Results: the study involved 210 residents, 56.7% were women. The average age was 24.37 years with SD of 1.82; 51.9% belonged to the University of Cuenca, 92.8% working in public institutions and 7.2% in private institutions. The prevalence of biological accidents was 62.4%; where, 57.1% were percutaneous accidents and 29.5% were splatter. No statistically significant relationship was found with age, gender, biosafety knowledge, and weekly working hours.
Conclusions: the prevalence of biological accidents was high, being higher in percutaneous injuries. There was no statistically relationship with: age, sex, biosafety knowledge and weekly working hours | |
