Babaco (Vasconcellea x heilbornii cv. 'babaco') is a native plant from Ecuadorian Andes, its fruit has great nutritional and commercial importance due to its use in industry. Nevertheless, this crop face an important problem, related to its propagation method, which has a parthenocarpic fruit, without seeds, being asexual its only form of reproduction, so the transfer of diseases through plant material is very common. It is known that an alternative for the propagation of this crop is the propagation in vitro using healthy plant material under aseptic conditions. In the in vitro multiplication phase, growth regulators are necessary for the adequate and accelerated development of new plant tissue. In this work two explant types were used for; in vitro sprouting evaluation 1) shoots and 2) stem segments with shoots of babaco (Vasconcellea x heilbornii cv. 'babaco'), treated with different concentrations of Thidiazuron (TDZ) and 6 Benzylaminopurine (BAP), were evaluated. The growth regulator that produced the best results was TDZ at a concentration of 1.50 mg/L, obtaining an average of 6.5 shoots, in addition, it was observed that it is important to consider the hormonal exposure times of the explants so that they do not show loss of vigor.
