In Cuenca, many of the transformations that have been presented in the urban space throughout its history have gone unnoticed and no analysis has been carried out on the background of the same. The causes of most of these changes are the struggles that take place in the social, economic and political contexts that crosses the city, and that is reflected in its architecture. The following work has the purpose of studying the changes produced in the Parque Calderón of Cuenca and the buildings around it, considering architecture as a means to understand the processes of transformation that the city lived in the period from 1870 to 1960, 5 and thus contribute to the reconstruction of the urban history of the capital of the province of Azuay.
