dc.description.abstractThe present work of reflection is a theoretical analysis on urban sustainability and urban political ecology. The development of the article explores how urban sustainability and urban political ecology assume the dialectic of nature/urbanism as a central element in its propositions and which are the radical differences that are conceived from their respective theoretical bases. In addition, it discusses the global visions that promote urban sustainability and proposes approaches, from urban political ecology, as a possible route for urban analysis in Latin America. In conclusion, it is proposed to overcome the theoretical approaches of global urban sustainability, by approaches that assume the nature/urbanism processes as co-constituted constructions, in complex and dynamic environments, where multi-scalar analysis (local, national, regional and global) of the social, economic, political and ecological processes of the present Latin American urban landscapes.
