Electric power losses in distribution transformers of Azogues Electric Utility are assessed and analyzed using programs CYMDIST and CYME Energy Profile Manager. Although distribution transformers operate at efficiency levels that often exceed 98%, the large number of units installed generate high energy losses that represent a cost to the system. Results show that the total losses in distribution transformers account for a large share of the technical losses, by about 2.24% of the energy available at medium voltage distribution system. Of this amount, 86% are no-load losses and 14% are load losses. While efficiency of distribution transformers calculated for a given load is high; it is more important the efficiency in energy transfer, which is associated with a period and includes the load cycle variations.
