| dc.description.abstract | Hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia are worldwide health problems which include a high level of cholesterol and triglycerides in blood that affect men as well as women, predisposing to the development of cardiovascular diseases.
A descriptive study was performed to determine the presence of Hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia in patients’ ages between 35 to 60 years who assist to clinical and surgery hospitalization areas in “Vicente Corral Moscoso” hospital. A survey, validated by judgment of experts, was applied to gather information about personal data and risk factors.
Besides, the determination of levels of cholesterol and triglycerides using enzymatic methods fulfilling with biosafety norms and quality control in an attempt to guaranty the results of the investigation, the same as were analyzed in the Clinical Laboratory of the Diagnostic Center of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Cuenca.
A lower prevalence of hypercholesterolemia was found 11,4% from which 9,4% with suspicion and 2,1% that need treatment; 5,8 men and 5,7 women. 88.5% from the assessed present normal levels of cholesterol. With regard to the hypertriglyceridemia, the prevalence is 29,1% (14,6% with suspicious and treatment needed), from which 17,7 are men and 11,5% are women, data to be considered since the increase of cholesterol and triglycerides is a trigger factor of associated pathologies.
According to the applied surveys to the 192 patients, those who present hypercholesterolemia, no one suffer cardiovascular diseases referring to the study, whereas those who were targeted with hypertriglyceridemia, 2% suffer from cardiovascular disease (1,5% thrombosis, 0,5% cardiac insufficiency). | |
