dc.description.abstract | The socio-economic pressures of today transmitted mainly by globalization, among
others, derive in the devaluation of different cultural expressions such as popular
architecture. In addition to this, there is ignorance and lack of pu-blic policies that
allow for proper management of vernacular heritage. In-ventories take a special
interest in this study as they are the basis for knowing, analyzing and managing
vernacular architecture in the different communities of Azuay.
This research aims to addresses the problem of the importance of a coherent heritage
assessment with the different actors involved in two rural parishes in of Cuenca. For this,
in the first chapter, an investigation is made of the different conceptions of the
appropriate topics such as vernacular architecture, identity, culture, heritage valuation
and conservation from an international perspective.
The following chapters deepen the study on the valuation of vernacular architecture
from a local perspective. In this way, in the second chapter, the case studies are
established through a quantitative analysis of the inventory cards existing in the
medium.
In the third chapter, the selected cases are investigate in depth its particular
characteristics, in order to rescue all the heritage values they may possess. In addition,
the diagnosis and assessment of each of the parishes is addressed.
The conclusions and recommendations are made especially at the local level. The
same ones that refer to the current reality of vernacular architecture in two rural
parishes in Cuenca, as well as the improvement of inventory and valuation processes of
vernacular land architecture | |
