In Ecuador, in the second decade of current XXI century, the academic music has provided a lot of composers, some of whom have been formed abroad but many have also been able to develop professionally in their own country. In this work we have made a musical analysis comprising form and harmony of two symphonies composed by one of the most prominent exponents of this generation, with the goal of getting us closer to the symphonic movement in the present day Ecuador. We have made a recap of the process followed by the classical symphony from its creation to the present day, taking into account the various transformations and contributions made to the genre, as well as the main exponents of the universal and latinamerican music. We will thoroughly delve into the trajectory of the composition teaching in Ecuador, adressing in detail the remarkable contributions made by the Department of Research and Musical Creation (DIC) of the Quito National Conservatory to the academic music in the nation.
