In this paper the characterization of solid waste generated in the city of Cuenca, where 22.7 % of the total collected is plastic, which are discarded freely without pretreatment is done. Similarly Polientilen features terephthalate (PET) are investigated to rule out adverse effects when included in the mix with traditional materials such as cement and water, fine aggregate. Bricks were prepared with dimensions of 20x10x6cm with addition of 10 PET, 25, 40, 55, 65 and 70 % replacing the fine aggregate. Various tests in order to compare them with bricks of baked clay commonly used in the region and analyze the material for non-bearing masonry according to the guidelines established by the Reporting Standards were then performed.
