dc.description.abstract | The pavement condition index, PCI for flexible and rigid pavements and ICP for articulated, determines the pavement level of service and the adequate interventions that can be executed, whether a preventive, corrective, reconstruction or no treatment. In addition, and for each pavement maintenance and rehabilitation (M&R) treatment, it shows its deterioration evolution. This study was made in Girón, a small-sized town located at the southern part of Azuay-Ecuador. PCI and ICP values for each pavement on the network were obtained through a semi-automated process of field data collection and analysis (including, hierarchy, optimization, and prioritization); using this information, it was possible to choose the best type of treatment (based on their level of service), and including treatment costs for each pavement section on the analyzed network,. For the whole network, the pavement condition indices shows an average service level of "Very Good" with a value of 72/100 for flexible pavements, "Good" with a value of 61/100 for rigid pavements, and "Good" With a value of 4.52/5 for articulated pavements. Finally, it is concluded that: by knowing the overall pavement network health, it possible to manage the assets is a more sustainable way, optimizing resources, and defining treatment following a prioritization process for the M&R treatments. | |
