This research verifies the formal values of the project for the New Square and Tower of Offices for the City of London of Mies van der Rohe; project approved in 1969; but that after years of disputes between conservationists and moderns was not built. This project was chosen because it was designed in the mature stage of the architect; and would be implanted in a historic center of great symbolic value. For this work, the architect’s position regarding historical contexts was identified through the revision of specialized bibliography; thus verifying Mies’ awareness of the subject. For the verification of the formal values, the digital re-construction of the project was carried out, which allowed visualizing the decisions made by the architect and verifying their relevance and contribution to the immediate context. With the purpose of recognizing the values of the project, the analysis of the re-construction in its scales: urban, building and constructive detail was realized through visual intellection; where the implicit structures were verified in favor of their immediate context. It was then noticed the relevance of this project in its environment from its different areas and the contribution to the city making it possible to improve its quality in its different components. These results oblige us to rethink the concepts of “heritage”, not only as something inherited and that needs to be conserved for belonging to “yesterday”, but in reality it should be understood as something under construction, with the contribution of the best of “today” and as a contribution to “tomorrow”.
