| dc.description.abstract | Introduction: Chronic kidney disease (CKD), is defined as an irreversible and progresive decrease of renal function; which develops in a slow and silent manner. This condition condition makes these patients more susceptible to lesions in the oral mucosa.
Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of oral mucosa lesions in chronic kidney disease patients undergoing dyalisis.
Methods: A cross.sectional descriptive study was carried out to evaluate the prevalence of oral mucosa lesions in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing dyalisis. 123 patients were choosen as participants acording to inclusive and exclusive criteria. The demographic and clinical variables studied were gender, age, gingival overgrowth, Uremic stomatitis, oral candidiasis, petechiae, purpura and ecchymoses.
Results: The 52% of the samples studied were female and 48% male. The average age was 60,22 years; the most representative group was conformed by adults between the ages of 18-64. 74% of patients studieds showed at leas one lesion. According to the oral lesions considered in this study the prevalences were: gingival overgrowth 46,3%, Uremic stomatitis10,6%, oral candidiasis 8,1%, petechiae 29,3%, purpura 21,1% and ecchymoses 7,3%.
Conclusions: 7 out of 10 patients with CKD undergoing dyalisis, show at least one oral mucosa lesion. | |
