dc.description.abstractThe inadequate concepts of oral hygiene at an early age remains a problem in much of the population. The aim of this study was to evaluate and improve the concepts and practices in oral hygiene before and after an educational intervention for students at the "José María Velasco Ibarra School. This study included 36 children from 8 to 11 years old. A survey about concepts and practices in oral hygiene was applied to these students and plaque index Löe & Silness was determined to assess the oral hygiene before and after the educational intervention, which consisted of two speeches and a practice in oral hygiene. Once the results of this intervention were obtained, they were analyzed epidemiologically by valuing each question and index of each patient. Through these results, we observed that before the educational intervention most of the children had inadequate oral hygiene concepts that related to a regular dental plaque index. After the educational intervention, there was a significant improvement children in both students’ knowledge (p<0,05) and oral hygiene (p=0,000003)
