| dc.description.abstract | A cross-sectional research with a universe of 120 public servants (administrative staff, faculty
members and employees) was carried out. According to the technical criteria of the National
Institute for Health and Safety at the Workplace (INSST in Spanish), identified 55 people as VDU
(Visual Display Units) users, only 47 of them are still part of this research (30 job positions with
similar designations). During the general risk assessment of the university, it was determined that
tolerable risk prevails (45%), followed by trivial risk (42%), moderate risk (13%), while important
and intolerable risks have not been identified (0%). Psychosocial hazard factors (30%) prevail
over ergonomic hazards (25%), mechanical hazards (25%), biological hazards (13%), physical
hazards (3.6%), chemical hazards (3%) and major accidents (0.4%). In general, job positions
such as: Cleaning Assistants (26), Laboratory Technicians (17), Experts in Engagement and
Social Welfare (17), Dentists (15), Maintenance and Operations Experts (15) and Physicians (14)
rank among the five occupations that are most exposed to work-related risk factors. The results
of the Nordic Kuorinka questionnaire concluded that the neck (87.23%) (n = 41) is the body part
that causes the most discomfort to VDU users, followed by the dorsal or lumbar area (57.45%) (n
= 27), both shoulders (34.04%) (n = 16), right wrist or hand (29.79%) (n = 14), and right elbow or
forearm (19.15%) (n = 9). According to the Rapid Office Strain Assessment (ROSA), high risk
prevails (level 2) (53.3%), followed by improvable risk (level 1) (40%), and a remarkably high risk
(level 3) (6.7%). At this level, we can find the Administrative Assistant and Financial Specialist
positions, with a final ROSA score of 6. Finally, an Occupational Risk Prevention Plan (PPRL in
Spanish) was proposed for VDU users, in order to reduce the probability of occurrence of
professional or occupational diseases and occupational accidents. | |
