This research aimed to identify the type of social support prevalent in adolescent males and females respectively. The quantitative approach was used, the non-experimental scope of which was descriptive, since numerical results were obtained, obtained through the application of two psychometric instruments: The Duke-UNK Functional Social Support Questionnaire and the MOS Questionnaire of perceived social support. The sample consisted of 184 adolescents belonging to the first years of the unified general baccalaureate of the National Experimental College "Benigno Malo" of Cuenca, Ecuador; being 44.02% women and 55.97% men; with an average age of 15 years. The results show that women perceive more social support than men; predominantly perceived social support based on leisure and distraction relationships; continuing with emotional support and material help. While in the perception of the emotional support subscale men excel.
