dc.description.abstractThis paper aims to assess the use and usefulness of tumor markers CEA, AFP, CA 19-9 and CA 72-4 for detecting recurrences and metastases of colorectal cancer in patients treated surgically in the service coloproctology Hospital IESS Basin. It is a non-experimental validation study of tumor marker levels in patients with colorectal cancer. that meet the following criteria for inclusion in the sample who received surgical tratamieto; provided with determinations of tumor markers before and after surgery, and have been diagnosed with recurrence or metastasis pathology and / or imaging. After analyzing the data obtained is presented as conclusion, elevated values ​​tomorales markers CEA, AFP, CA 19-9 and CA 72-4 in patients post-surgical controls operated by colorectal cancer, are no better as indicators recurrence or metastasis; but normal levels of these markers in postoperative controls if valid as indicators of absence of recurrence or metastasis.
