This research aims to systematically analyze some thoughts that have been suggested through the History of Philosophy concerning problems within the relationship with the “Other” or “otherness”. Considering as a starting point notions such as Tolerance, Hospitality and Intolerance, and regarding the main philosophical works of authors such as Locke, Voltaire, J. S. Mill, Kant, E. Levinas, J. Derrida, S. Zizek. It is planted an informative itinerary by the western philosophical movement, from which we attempt to expose the ambiguous nature of ethical and moral human behavior. Subsequent to this, the inquiry extends to Latin America and how the influence of E. Levinas’ thought caused partly the emergence of fundamental currents in the insertion of otherness as an alternative before the notion of totality. Similarly, the approach given by Enrique Dussel to Otherness stands out. Furthermore, we analyze how Latin America is historically instituted within the global power relations as an oppressed and dependent actor (region). In this context the Philosophy of Liberation is presented as a critical initiative that seeks the open of new horizons which trace cultural demands once Latin America sets up more effectively in the historical development.
