Themostcommonlyusedrotatory machine in industryisphaseinductionmotors. Typically, theseenginesrequire drivers to regulatetheir torque and speed. To acomplishthespeed control of thismachinery, a wellknown industrial controllercalled variable speed drive (VSD) isused. The most common VSD control algorithms are: pulse-width modulation (PWM), space vector modulation (SVM). Thisresearchproposesthedesign and implementation of a variable speed drive forthree-phaseinductionmotors of smallpowerbyusingpredictive control overthe load currents. The proposed design includes two stages: the power stage and the control stage. Thefirststagecomprises a rectifier, a capacitor and aninverter. Therectifierconverts AC to DC power. The capacitor isresponsibleforreducingtheripplevoltageafterrectification. Finally, theinverterconverts DC to AC powerthatfeedsthethree-phase motor. The second stage consists of a DSP TMS320F28335, which is responsible of executing a model predictive control algorithm (MPC). The MPC uses themodel of thesystem to predictthefuturebehavior of the control variables. In thisresearchconsiders a three-phaseinduction motor has beenconsidered as thesystem to be controlled, and thephasecurrents in the motor are the control variables.
