Study to demonstrate polyglactin 910 (vicryl) 2/0 produces less suturing dehiscence, less pain and less need for analgesics than the traditional chromic catgut in the episiorrafia. With a design cuasiexperimental included 400 primigestas which needed episiotomy in Hospital Vicente Corral in 2010. Two non-randomised groups were formed: Polyglactin 910 (Vicryl) 2/0 group with nontraumatic needle, ½ cìrcle, 30 mm, (n = 200) and group 0 chromic catgut with nontraumatic needle, ½ cìrcle, 35 mm.(n = 200). Compared incidence near postpartum episiorrafia dehiscence (7-10 days), intensity of the pain and analgesic use in the immediate postpartum period (2, 6, 12 hours). The dehiscences were significantly juvenile Polyglactin Group (P = 0.0002). The pain was similar in both groups at 2 h (P = 0,052) and significantly less in the Polyglactin group at 6 h (P = 0.001) and at 12 h (P = 0.003). The total number of doses of pain relievers in Polyglactin Group (n = 199) was significantly lower (P = 0,002) that Catgut Group (n = 279). Conclusion: Our results were similar to those published. Chromic catgut 0 and Polyglactin 910 (Vicryl) 2/0 are sutures used and most recommended even in medical centers today. The lower incidence of dehiscences episiorrafia, less aggressive pain, and the less analgesic need make the best alternative.
