The present research pretends to analyze the "Protocol of action for the search, investigation and location of missing persons" implemented by Ecuadorian Government: Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility, Ministry of Interior and Fiscalía General del Estado, in the search for missing Ecuadorian migrants. Failures are identified in the joint work between public institutions, which represents duplicity in efforts, information lost and emotional stress in the members of the family. For this reason, it presents a proposal that includes specific actions with recommendations to the public institutions involved in this social problem in order to confront the disappearance of migrants. In this way, it takes into consideration the “Protocol for the search of missing persons and Investigation of the crime of Forced Disappearance” developed by the Government of Mexico implemented in June 2015 as a model of intervention in this social problem.
