dc.description.abstractIn order to improve structural design codes, it is necessary to comprehend the structural response under dynamic loads such as earthquakes. The fallowing study seeks to improve the understanding of the structural response under these kind of loads, and therefore, its modeling effects. The structural model, in charge of predicting the behavior of structural systems, needs to be capable of foretelling physics phenomena the best way possible. The studied prototype was taken from a project done by FEMA P-695. The prototype has eight floors with steel special moment frames for resisting lateral loads. The design of the prototype was done in accordance with ASCE and AISC. The structural elements are modeled with displacement-based fibers. Once the structure is modeled, then a performance analysis is done, in addition with modal analysis, non-linear static and dynamic analysis with and without the contribution of P-Delta effect. The structural modeling and analysis software is OpenSees, on the other hand, the post-processing software is Matlab. The study seeks to obtain a structural model with displacement-based fibers along its elements in order to capture the best way possible the structural response under seismic loads, consequently, make a performance analysis. This model provides with a significant understanding of the elements and the structural system under loads. For instance, the global and element-by-element response of the model is captured in detail.
