Abstract

Danzas y géneros musicales de salón en Cuenca 1870-1930 is a singular monograph that brings us closer to the history of traditional salon musical compositions in the city of Cuenca, in the south of Ecuador, during a period barely studied. Through this text, pleasant and reflective, the researcher Jannet Alvarado recovers a whole collection of forgotten scores, analyzing them musicologically to reveal how much sacred and how much profane there is in their origin and uses. Likewise, some works for piano and song are reconstructed that can be heard in the compact disc that accompanies the book: twelve arrangements that remind us of the importance of rescuing this legacy from the Andean musical history.
