This research deals with the jewelry trade in Saraguro (Loja, Ecuador), from 1980 to 2018. Through ethnographic work (interview and participant observation), this thesis describes the formation of a jewelry workshop, the tools, the techniques, commerce, as well as the use of jewels by the Saraguros. The research covers the period from 1980 to 2018, because during this time there were different social changes that influenced the artisanal branch of jewelry; specifically goldsmiths, incorporated machinery, and evolution of jewelry crafting techniques. On the other hand, the globalization of society and fashion demands created new trends, types, sizes and colors of stones in jewelry
