dc.description.abstract | The objective of this study is to determine strategies for solid waste reduction, for which a review has been made of the entire process that includes the management of solid waste (generation, collection, treatment, final disposal) both internationally and locally. Updated studies have been reviewed on different factors that affect this generation, which have also served to establish a methodology for the present investigation. In a first stage, a general survey was carried out on the urban residential sector of the city of Cuenca, to determine perceptions, attitudes and behaviors. In a second stage of case studies, the measurement is made using technical standards for both generation and characterization of solid waste. Within this stage of case studies, a consult on attitudes towards strategies such as recycling has been made. Subsequently, the results obtained are analyzed: a main result is that although people have a positive attitude towards recycling and are willing to follow norms, there are certain situational factors that could become barriers to comply these activities. Examples being lack of space, lack of time or the appreciation that recycling is a complicated activity. More than 50% of respondents think that they are not well informed about recycling. recycling and are willing to follow norms, there are certain situational factors that could become barriers to comply these activities.
